COVER THOSE UGLY JEWELRY DISPLAYS!

Hmmm… Decisions… Decisions…  Black suede or white leather?

When buying jewelry displays, there’s really not much to choose from. Unless you want to make quiet an investment in those beautiful upscale linen or wooden ones. And it would be quiet an investment. Oh well … one day soon…(sigh).

But…. for the here-and-now, here’s a quick remedy for covering those plain or worn out jewelry displays. It’s fast, it’s easy, and really inexpensive!

Displays 1 MATERIALS NEEDED

 MATERIALS NEEDED

PLASTER CRAFT
CONTAINER
HOT WATER
SCISSORS
JEWELRY STANDS

Oh…. A WORD OF WARNING!

BE SURE TO COVER ANY FURNITURE WITH PLASTIC AND NEWSPAPER. I DID THIS PROJECT ON MY WORK BENCH, SO IT REALLY DIDN’T MATTER, BUT GETTING THE PLASTER OFF SOME SURFACES WILL BE NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE!

Displays 14 FOR FURNITURE

CUT PLASTER CRAFT INTO STRIPS LARGE ENOUGH TO COVER THE DISPLAY PIECE.

Displays 3 BEGIN CUTTING STRIPS

DIP ONE PIECE OF THE PLASTER CLOTH INTO THE WATER UNTIL SATURATED.               DON’T LET IT SIT IN THE WATER OR IT WILL BECOME A SLIMY MUSH!

LIFT FROM THE WATER AND BEGIN WRAPPING THE CLOTH AROUND THE DISPLAY BOARD. MAKE SURE IT’S ANCHORED AROUND THE BOARD SO IT WILL ‘GRAB AND HOLD,’ OTHERWISE IT MAY BREAK LOOSE LATER.

Displays 5 DIP INTO WATER

IF THE DISPLAY BOARD HAS METAL HOOKS FOR SECURING JEWELRY, POKE THEM THROUGH THE CLOTH SO THEY WILL BE ACCESSIBLE LATER. CLEAN THEM OFF WHILE THE PLASTER IS STILL WET AND GOOEY.

Displays 6 BEGIN COVERING - PULL OUT METAL TABS

SMOOTH WITH WATER AND YOUR FINGERS. THE MORE YOU SMOOTH IT, THE MORE THE PLASTER WILL COME OUT AND THE CLOTH WILL BECOME SMOOTHER. KEEP IN MIND; IT WILL NEVER BE COMPLETELY ‘SMOOTH’.

IF YOU LIKE THE TEXTURE OF THE CLOTH YOU CAN SIMPLY ‘WRAP AND GO’.

Displays 12 USING WATER AND FINGERS

BRING SOME OF THE CLOTH TO THE BACK AND SMOOTH DOWN

Displays 7 COVERING

SMOOTH THE STRIPS OF PLASTER CLOTH OVER THE FRONT. MAKE SURE THE EDGES ARE PRESSED DOWN WELL.

Displays 9 COVERING

LET DRY COMPLETELY.
PAINT THE BACK TO GIVE THE DISPLAY BOARD A MORE FINISHED LOOK.
THE FRONT CAN BE PAINTED OR LEFT AS IS.

THESE WERE LEFT UNPAINTED….

BUT NEXT BATCH, I’M GONNA TRY A DRY BRUSH TECHNIQUE

HOPE YOU ENJOY!
